Minnie Mouse

Poppy loves Minnie Mouse. So in June Jayme is giving her a Minnie Mouse birthday party. I will make cookies but the characters are so iconic that I didn't want to mess up the look. I started my internet search and found JB Cookie Cutters. Amazing.

I just had to try them out.
So the first time I tried outlining everything.
Then the bow.
The black ears and the mouth
The flesh color.
Pretty happy with it but I did try some other ways.
This was without the initial outlining.
I will admit I made three more...just kept thinking I could do better.
So I my third try I didn't outline the bow at all and just counted on the texture.
Ok, after all, they are just going to be eaten but I will get them exactly as I want them.

Baby Onsies

Pilar and Prince Amukamara are expecting their first baby. A girl. They came over for dinner when they were in town last week. It was great to see them. She looks amazing!
I made them some sugar cookies and decorated them like Onsies.
It was such a fun project and I was going to do half floral and half pink with a jersey look....
...but I went a little crazy!

Anyway you get the idea.

Polar loved them and that makes me happy!
Can't wait to see that sweet little one!

Roscoe's 2nd Firefighter Birthday

My friend, Piper, asked me to make cookies for her son's 2nd birthday. His dad is a fireman and Roscoe just loves all things related to what his dad does so we decided on firetrucks. WELL I thought maybe it would be fun to include other things related to fire fighting. Here is the end result.
(I do look at other cookies on Pinterest to get ideas but also sketch out my own so I try to give credit for an idea but when I have looked at so many I can't remember where the idea came from and lots are in my head so all that to say there are a lot of great cookies out there and I look at them and get ideas)
Here is my sketch book and I use lined because it is easier to get a size and dimension. Graph works but doesn't come in book forrm usually so...I digress.
These were so simple and fun and yet they look so complicated. That's the best kind!
Actually in this set the "2" is my favorite. The fire just looks so real and the burning board really worked out well. My fire hydrants aren't my favorite but sometimes you just have to say "It's a cookie, someone will be eating it." and let it go.
I had found this hydrant planter on sale at Hobby Lobby so I created a styrofoam top for it and put the cookies in an arrangement on it. I am pleased.

So Happy Birthday, little man, I am glad you like my cookies better than cake!

Thank You Cookies

My friend, Robin, took care of our animals while we were in Chicago. It was snowy, very snowy, and bitter cold! Bless her for coming over each day! So I made her some thank you cookies.
Chocolate chip sugar cookies, a bottle of "milk" and a carton of "eggs".

New Home Cookies

My friend, Lindsey, asked me to make her some cookies to give to her sister and brother-in-law on the occasion of moving in to their new home.
I cut out some rectangles then used a tiny square cutter to cut out the windows. I made a small amount of hard candy to pour into the openings.
I outlined the window openings in grey then did the entire door in white with grey rectangles on the wet icing. After they dried a bit I went over the squares and rectangles with white to look like trim and put a grey doorknob plate and gold bead for the doorknob. I set them aside to dry.
After they dried a bit more I piped on a "grapevine" wreath and red ribbon.
For the HOME letters I piped grey to be my morter. Then when it was dry I piped in red flood icing to make my bricks.

These I did the letter the same as HOME but then filled in the background in a beige and when that was dry I piped on a grapevine wreath heart.
The keys and key tags were just frosted and when dry the details were put on. I had put the holes in before baking so I could attach them to each other.
I just used a ribbon on this one and twine on the other ones.
I will arrange them in a basket lined with foam to make an arrangement.
And the finished bouquet.
You can't really see all the words from the picture but you can when you see it in person. I'm really happy with it.

Cream Puffs

The other day it was cold and I was siezed by a fit of baking so I decided to try cream puffs. They were so simple and turned out perfect. I can't believe I have never tried them.

Get Well Cookies

Jayme's mother-in-law was hit head on by another car. Fortunately she only sustained a broken knee cap. But she's unable to drive and get around so I decided to make her cookies.

I think they make a nice change from flowers. 😀

Happy Baking,

Patti
